Habits: How Changing Them Changed My Life (Series 2)

Welcome to second installment in the series, Habits: How Changing Them Changed My Life. (If you missed the first story about Tre, you can find that here) Let me introduce you to Holley Kepley. She is a fighter; hilarious and full of life! Her story is amazing and we are so glad to be sharing it with the world! We hope that in reading this you will be inspired to achieve what you think is impossible and to fight for your health even when it’s scary sometimes. Holley is an inspiration to us all, so without further ado, here is her life changing, story!

In March 2015, doctors found a basketball size mass in my stomach. They were afraid of doing surgery due to my weight and health, but because of the size of the mass and the pain I was in, the doctors finally made the decision to do surgery. When the doctors discussed surgery with me I became scared and feared for my life. Once it was time for surgery, it took over 1 hour and 30 minutes to get me to sleep and stable. Due to this struggle the doctors were concerned enough to leave me on a ventilator for an additional day.

When I woke up on Thursday and was trying to figure out what happened to Wednesday, I knew I had to make a change. From that day I changed everything that I ate or drank. I stopped eating sugar. I stopped eating greasy and fatty foods. I started swimming, walking and doing small workouts. As of Wednesday June 10th, I have lost 84 pounds. My goal is 100 pounds by the end of July. I feel so much better in my every day life and I have dropped 2 sizes already. The fitness PIE meeting helped change my ideas on eating healthy and taught me to read food labels.

Our habits define everything that we do. If we learn to change our habits, then we will see our whole lives start to change. For Holley, this meant managing her weight. But it can mean a change in the way you think, relate to others, work, communicate and carry yourself. Many of our staff members here have gained a new confidence in themselves now that they understand The Power of Habit. Stay tuned for our third blog in this series coming up next week!
