On October 4th at approximately 10:30am, Level3, a major internet and phone services provider, experienced a major outage with nationwide impact. As a result, VoiceNation experienced a loss of phone services affecting several customers. This outage was not a result of VoiceNation’s systems or capabilities, and impacted nearly all phone service providers to some extent. Service was restored approximately one and a half hours later at noon. We are continuing to work with our carriers to determine steps that can be taking to prevent future occurrences.
If you have not heard about Level3 before now, trust me you will hear about it is in some way over the next 3 days. This morning’s service disruption affected systems like XBOX Live, Outlook, HBO Go, Yahoo Mail, and many major telecommunication services like ATT, Version, and Sprint. You can see by looking at the Level3 Outage Map from this morning, that the outage was felt by the majority of the population in some way. Due to the reach of Level3’s networks, the effects were felt in the UK, Germany, and other countries, as well. At the same time Twitter (#level3outage) exploded with questions, concerns, and outage reports.
