Wednesday was our first P.I.E. Meeting of 2015!
PIE meetings are some of our favorite events that take place throughout the year. Four times a year, we have the opportunity to gather together in order to grow, both individually and as a team, within the core values of VoiceNation: Passion, Innovation, and Excellence. Our staff development theme for the year is habits and many of us determined that our greatest need for a habit change was nutrition and fitness. With this in mind, our incredible managers decided to dedicate an entire PIE Meeting to learn about how to take care of our bodies!
Eric did a tremendous job walking us through everything there is to know about calorie intake, reading and interpreting the nutritional facts on the packages of our food, and even the difference that exercise can make when combined with eating right. It’s incredible how simply crunching numbers and a knowledge of basic science can be so instrumental in our well-being and health.
Remember the days when the majority of “work” was manual labor? Nowadays, most of us spend our time sitting behind a desk, staring at a computer screen, and answering phones. When we get home at the end of the day, our willpower is diminished and it’s hard to make the choice to hop on the bike or go for a run when all you want to do is plop on the couch. So as we learned to strengthen our willpower muscle, Amanda taught us some simple exercises that can be done while sitting at our desks! We might have looked ridiculous, but we felt so much healthier!
To top it off, we ended the day with a fitness class led by Michelle Miller at Zest Studio in Buford. We got our heart pumping, toned our muscles, and then replenished all of the calories that we burned with the healthy foods that we just learned about. Plus, we had an AWESOME time showing off some of our dance moves with our coworkers!
What a day! Not only was it educational in an area that has been on all of our minds, but it was also insanely fun. VoiceNation is built upon the growth and development of it’s team. We want to see our people thrive in every area of life – physically, emotionally, and mentally. When we start to change our habits for the better, we see a difference at work, at home, and everywhere in between! So get out there and eat healthy, exercise, and build up that willpower and see your life begin to change!
